The hamlet of Miller Place is a census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the North Shore of Long Island. It contains a 2-mile section of beach. It also hugs the east side of Mount Sinai Harbor, which it shares with neighboring Mount Sinai and Port Jefferson. It has an area of 6.6 sq mi (17.0 km2), none of which is covered by water.
The hamlet borders the areas of Sound Beach, Mount Sinai, Rocky Point, Middle Island and Coram. There is a long history of connection between Miller Place and Mount Sinai, whose residents share such institutions as the Mount Sinai Congregational Church, which borders the towns. The harborfront section of Port Jefferson, 5 miles to the west, serves as the primary commercial center for Miller Place and Mount Sinai residents.
NY 25A passes through the mid section of the hamlet and intersects with Miller Place Road which runs north-south. Miller Place Road is divided into two sections: N Country Rd to the north and splits into two to the south as Miller Place Road exiting southwest and Miller Place - Yaphank Road exiting southeast.
Though the most popular beach in the area, Cedar Beach, is technically owned by adjacent Mount Sinai, Miller Place owns most of the land leading to this peninsular beach and thus has more residences in its vicinity. Miller Place Beach lies before Cedar Beach, adjacent to Cordwood Landing County Park. Sylvan Ave Park and Sylvan Avenue Ballfield is situated between NY 25A and Echo Ave. Miller Place High School and North Country Road Middle Sch serves the hamlet and are about 2 miles from each other. Miller Place Inn is adjacent to North Country Road Middle Sch. Further east is the location of Andrew Muller Primary School. Washington Memorial Park at the south boundary is shared by Mount Sinai and Miller Place.
