Middle Island is a hamlet and census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The hamlet has a total area of 8.3 square miles (21.5 km2), of which the land is 8.2 square miles (21.3 km2) and the water is 0.077 square miles (0.2 km2).
Middle Island is located between the hamlets of Coram and Ridge, to the west and east respectively, and Rocky Point and Yaphank, to the north and south. It is a community in the Town of Brookhaven served by the Longwood Central School District, which at 58 square miles (150 km2) is the largest school district on Long Island.
Middle Country Road or Route NY 25 which has a distance of about 2.25 mi (3.62 km) lies in the middle of the hamlet as well which passes through the biggest out of the three lakes in the hamlet namely Artist Lake. Yaphank Middle Island Road intersects with NY 25 covering the north-south direction, at the north half it becomes Rocky Point Road and splits into Miller Place Yaphank Road to the west and stays as Rocky Point Road to the east.
Middle Island is surrounded by three public golf courses:
Middle Island Country Club and Spring Lake Golf Club are both within Middle Island; Mill Pond Golf Course is just to the south, in Yaphank
Parks within Middle Island include Cathedral Pines County Park (formerly a Boy Scout camp) at 116 Yaphank Middle Island Rd, also the adjacent Prosser Pines County Park at 67 Yaphank Middle Island Rd and Middle Island Dog Park at 1075 Middle Country Rd.. The Longwood Public Library is located in Middle Island at 800 Middle Country Rd. Online attraction in town is Medford Haunted House at 79 Middle Island Blvd. Place of worship include Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, City On A Hill Community Church, Temple Ministries C.F.C., and Middle Island Church of God. Schools within the hamlet are West Middle Island Elementary School just to the west, Longwood High School to the south, and Longwood Middle School right in the center.
