Wantagh (/ˈwɒntɔː/ WAHN-taw) is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County on Long Island, New York, United States. It has a total area of 4.1 square miles (11 km2), of which 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2) is land and 7.25%, is water.
Wantagh borders North Bellmore, East Meadow, Levittown, Plainedge, Massapequa, Seaford and South Oyster Bay to the south. There are 5 arterial highways that converge or meet in the hamlet. Southern Parkway Highway in the north area that runs west-east interchanges with Wantagh State Parkway. Wantagh State Parkway runs north-south connecting New Cassel from the north down until the Jones Beach State Park to the south which stretches for a distance of about 12.70 mi (20.45 km), it also intersects with Jerusalem Avenue. Another interchange within the hamlet is in the northeast shared with Southern State Parkway and Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway which runs north-south. Sunrise Highway intersects with both Wantagh State Parkway and Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.
Attractions within the hamlet include Forest City Community Park, Twin Lakes Preserve, Mill Pond Park and Adam D Rand Memorial Trail, Wantagh Park, Wantagh Parkway Trail, Wantagh Park Marina Playground, Cedar Creek Park, Jones Beach State Park, Jones Beach Field 10, Jones Beach, Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh Preservation Society. It is also home to Samuel and Elbert Jackson House at 1542 Wantagh Ave. Schools that served the hamlet are Mandalay School, Wantagh Elementary School, Wantagh Middle School, The Mosaic School, Maplewood School & Summer Program and Pixie Nursery School. Places of worship within the hamlet include Christ Lutheran Church, Church of St Jude Rectory, The Church of St. Jude and St. Frances de Chantal R.C. Church, all of which are located in the north half of Wantagh.
