We still get inquiries from clients whether their carpets will be shampooed during the cleaning service. This type of cleaning method used to be a hit from way back until around the late 1970s.

Most companies would regard carpet shampoo cleaning as outdated. A more advanced cleaning method called deep steam cleaning (aka hot water extraction) has taken over and has been a hit due to its quicker drying time. This is why it can be a pain looking for companies that will still do carpet shampooing for you.

There are a lot of advantages to deep steam cleaning over shampooing. For one, it uses a piece of much lighter equipment. Another is the much quicker drying time. Before, you will have to wait a long time for carpets to dry up as repeated rinsing was required to wash out thick layers of shampoo. While hot water extraction only uses steam.

After the long process of carpet shampooing, then the drying time, the carpet will still be left with a sticky feeling on the surface due to the soap residue.

Dust and dirt will stick to this reside which would someday require a more intense cleaning which is counter-productive. Not to mention the chemicals of the shampoo will, later on, create a yellowish stain to the carpet.

It’s almost impossible to find a company that still does shampoo cleaning unless your carpet is in a very hopeless situation like it hasn’t been cleaned for years. There are a thick grime layer and deep stains underneath.

While it can be justified for carpets in these state to be shampooed, deep steam cleaning can still easily restore carpets while the above conditions are present.
