Shampooing a carpet was a popular cleaning method from way back until the ’70s. Although, surprisingly we still get asked by clients if their carpets will be shampooed.

Currently, a more advanced cleaning method called deep steam cleaning (also known as hot water extraction) has taken over carpet shampooing. Mainly because it dries up much quicker. This is why most companies consider washing a carpet with shampoo an obsolete method. Making it difficult to find information about it.

Deep steam cleaning is actually more efficient in a lot of different aspects. It is less complicated to use as the equipment is usually lightweight. Also, no more waiting for a long time to for the carpet to dry as it only uses steam whereas carpet shampooing would require thorough cleansing with water to remove excess shampoo layers that soaked into the carpet.

After all the trouble of carpet shampooing, there will be a soap residue left over. And it will fell a little sticky.

Because of this sticky residue, it will be easier for dirt to accumulate on the carpet so it’ll need to be cleaned more often. The chemicals in the shampoo will also later stain the carpet with a yellow like effect.

In this day and age, only the worst carpet scenarios will call for shampoo cleaning. Such as a thick dark muddy stain, thick grime and a carpet that pretty much looks black and has been for years.

Technically, a situation like this could use a shampoo carpet cleaning. But even carpets in the worst conditions can effortlessly be rehabilitated with the modern deep steam cleaning.
