Shampooing a carpet was a method of cleaning that was in demand until around the 70’s decade. Today we have better technology for cleaning. However, we still get asked by prospective clients if their carpets will be shampooed.
Nowadays it is difficult to find information on carpet shampoo cleaning. And very hard to find a company that still does this service. This is mainly due to newer cleaning technology called deep steam cleaning or hot water extraction. It has become well favored for its faster drying time.
In fact, there are a number of reasons why deep steam cleaning is a much better cleaning method than shampooing. It is easier to use as the equipment is much lighter. It is also less time consuming as it dries up much faster. Shampooing would mean thorough rinsing with water which soaks the carpet taking longer to completely dry out. Whereas the alternative only uses steam.
After the carpets are clean and what seems like a lifetime has gone by for the drying to take place the carpet will feel like they have a sticky residue left over.
This will cause more dirt to adhere to the carpet which is only counterproductive. Over time the carpet will also get yellowish blotches all over due to the chemicals used when shampooing.
Because of better alternatives, shampoo carpet cleaning is only called for on carpets with a really bad condition. Think thick grime, deep stains all over and almost untouched for years so all the germs have been pretty much left to bind very deeply into the carpet fibers.
While it can be justified for carpets in these state to be shampooed, deep steam cleaning can still easily restore carpets while the above conditions are present.
