East Islip is a hamlet and CDP in the Town of Islip, Suffolk County, New York, United States. The CDP has a land area of 3.9 square miles (10.2 km2) and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km2) is covered by water for a total area of 4.1 square miles (10.5 km2).
East Islip borders four other hamlets: Islip is to the west, Islip Terrace is to the north, North Great River is to the northeast, and Great River is to the east. The Great South Bay is to the south. The town operates a public beach on the bay and an experimental shellfish hatchery nearby.
The CDP lies in two intersections: one is the Sunrise Highway and Heckscher State Parkway in the northeast; and down south is the Montauk Highway and Heckscher State Parkway, just 0.8 miles (1.30 km) away from each other.. Sunrise Highway covers the entire northern boundary. Meanwhile Heckscher State Parkway runs north-south which ends at the Heckscher Toll Plaza toll booth to the south. Montauk Highway traverses straight through the central area of the town.
The East Islip School District serves the families of East Islip, Great River and Islip Terrace. Two of the district's four elementary schools (John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Timber Point Elementary School) are located in East Islip, south of Montauk Highway. Local establishments along the Montauk Highway include East Islip Animal Hospital, East Islip Paint, East Islip Fire District, East Islip Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation, East Islip Lanes Inc, East Islip Dental Care and East Islip Public Library. It is also home to few parks such as Brookwood Hall Park, South Shore Nature Center, East Islip Marina Park, Country Village Park and Town Beach, all of them located at the south. Islip Art Museum is located at 50 Irish Ln. It is home to two event venues namely Greenwood Hall and Carleton Hall just a block away from each other.
