The Town of Huntington is one of ten towns in Suffolk County, New York, United States. On the north shore of Long Island in northwestern Suffolk County, it is immediately adjacent to Long Island Sound, as well as Nassau County to the west. The town was founded in 1653.
The town has 137.1 sq mi (355 km2) of total area, 94.0 sq mi (243 km2) of land and 43.1 sq mi (112 km2) of water. It is bordered by 7 incorporated and unincorporated villages starting from Huntington Bay and Halesite in the north, Lloyd Harbor in the northwest, another harbor namely Cold Spring Harbor in the west, Huntington Station covers both southwest and south borders, Greenlawn in southeast and Centerport in the east. Between Huntington and Huntington Bay flows the Huntington Harbor.
Long Island’s New York State Route 25A becomes Main St as it enters the borders of the town. It runs across the center of the town and intersects with New York Ave or New York 110 near the western border. New York 110 connects Halesite from the north and Huntington Station from the south. Other main roads that are accessible by Main St are Southdown Rd, W Neck Rd, Oakwood Rd, Park Ave, Greenlawn Rd, and Washington Dr.
Huntington is home to many attractions including The Heckscher Museum of Art, Huntington Arts Council, Spotlight NY Huntington, b.j. spoke gallery, Huntington Crescent Club, Huntington Country Club, Chateau At Coindre Hall, Mill Dam Park, Fair Meadow Park, Hilaire Woods Park and Carpenter Farm Park; Beaches and beach parks in the north such as the Gold Star Beach Park, Knollwood Beach and Fleets Cove Beach Park. It it also home to many schools and colleges including Nathaniel Woodhull School, J. Taylor Finley Middle School, Flower Hill Primary School, Southdown Primary School, Huntington High School and Jefferson Primary School. Huntington Hospital is smack dab at the center of the town on 270 Park Ave.
Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road serves the town's vicinity, and uses stations between Cold Spring Harbor and Northport. Electrification of the Port Jefferson Branch reaches Huntington at its eastern end. Huntington is mainly served by Huntington Area Rapid Transit, although Suffolk County Transit also operates routes in the town.
