Garden City is an incorporated village in Nassau County, New York, United States, in the town of Hempstead. On Long Island, to the east of New York City, the village is 18.5 miles (29.8 km) from midtown Manhattan. Most of the village is in Hempstead, with a small portion in North Hempstead.
5.3 square miles (13.8 km2) of the village's total area is land. As well as the Village of Garden City, the Garden City 11530 ZIP code includes Stewart Manor, an incorporated village in the Town of Hempstead, and two unincorporated areas in East Garden City and Garden City South. It is bordered by Garden City Park and Mineola in the north, Stewart Manor in the west, Franklin Square in the southwest, while West Hempstead and Hempstead being in the south, Roosevelt Field sits in the east.
There are hamlets in the Garden City region, including Garden City South, Garden City Park, and East Garden City, that are near the incorporated village, but do not belong to it. East Garden City is home to Roosevelt Field, a shopping center and raceway built on the site of the airfield from which Charles Lindbergh took off for his famous transatlantic flight in 1927 in the Spirit of St. Louis. In Garden City, Adelphi University's main campus is located.
