Southards Pond Park

In Babylon, you’ll find Southards Pond Park. If you wish to get a feel for the beauty of nature, or spend some time with a friend, take a trip to this pond.

Don't be fooled by the name. There is indeed a pond that is reputed to be a good source of large yellow perch and other freshwater fish. But this is a pretty large enclosed park that’s full of natural paths that wind over and around streams, tunnels and places ideal for exploring on foot. 

It is being said that the pond itself is a part of the Carll’s River system, which originates at Geiger Park in Wyandanch and runs through Belmont Lake and into Argyle Lake before hitting the great South Bay Estuary.

You can find it just off Sunrise Highway.  You will find it to be just the right place. Since the fashion industry is one of creativity and risk, a person who builds a business designing clothes ought to nurture and promote creativity in abundance.

You may finally be able to ignite a fresh flood of ideas by clearing your mind at least for a few moments, but if you do not get a notebook and pen, you will not be able to conduct a detailed brainstorming process. When you feel creatively depleted, head straight to nature. Southards Pond Park is the site in this case.

For those of you who have not been familiar with the 19 acres of forested beauty, Southards Pond Park is a place where you can find a friendly community, four-legged companions and lots of inspiration. You hardly ever feel crowded since there’s so much space. (Except for Labor Day! All the paths were full, but the fact that it was so busy made it even better.)

Because of this, many locals know about it, but few hadn't been there. Maybe you haven’t, too; keep reading.

The Poet Section in North Babylon has a number of entrances, but if you're coming from their area of the island, it's off DPA two blocks west to Pond Place just south of Sunrise. You’ll know you’re close when you see the water start to peak out from the backyards of quaint old homes. You can park at Pond Place and Southards Lane if you are driving.

They decided to use a bike as their mode of transportation. The views are much better and the terrain is also enjoyable for anyone who likes a hilly surface that makes for some “rad” moments, as their friend Jae who they have known for over 15 years would always say.

Away from the main path, there are little nooks for reading a book, for relaxing, or for looking at a map like the woman pictured. More seats that aren't grass would be great in the park. Using reclaimed tree trunks as building blocks, comfortable wooden seating spots were shaped into the benches by chopping a wedge lengthwise.
