Robert Moses State Park is a beautiful, scenic park located in the village of Babylon on Long Island. The park's history goes back to its creation in 1928 when it was used as a dumping ground for sand dredged from nearby rivers. In 1929, Robert Moses became commissioner of the New York State Parks Department and he purchased this land with funds allocated by Governor Franklin D Roosevelt for public use.
In order to preserve it from development and in honor of his contributions during his time as a politician, including construction on Long Island’s parkways and bridges, he named it Robert Moses State Park after himself. The park offers many activities for visitors including hiking, fishing, bird watching and golfing! It also has various amenities which include flush toilets and picnic tables available for rent at an affordable price!
The park also hosts the annual Robert Moses Golf Tournament which raises funds towards maintenance and upkeep of the golf course. This is a popular event attended by many locals as well as out-of-towners! A snapshot of what visitors can enjoy at this beautiful, scenic park in Babylon on Long Island.
The park is located on the south shore of Long Island, just east of Wyandanch. It stretches out to nearly 500 acres and features a gorgeous golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, six baseball fields (including one with lights), two soccer fields for kids only at night time in summer months due to the heat, and a children’s play area.
There are also walking trails that connect to other state parks for those looking to explore more of Long Island’s natural beauty. The park offers facilities for picnicking as well, with four different picnic areas; one on each side of the pool, another in the children’s play area.
You can also head to any other state parks that are nearby such as Jones Beach. There are some interesting historical landmarks in the park as well, like the old bathhouse and Robert Moses’s home too. These can be seen during a self-guided walking tour that is offered by this state park.
The park also offers camping and fishing for those who want to stay overnight, as well as kayaking, bike rental, paddle boats and disc golf too! This is a great place where the whole family can have fun together while exploring nature- or just relaxing in one of the beach chairs that are available on site.
There are a variety of programs and events that happen in the park, from bird watching to fishing trips. For those who want to learn more about nature or just enjoy spending time outdoors with family and friends- this is an awesome place! There are also many programs for children- such as an adventure club where young people can learn more about nature in a fun way! There's something here for everyone to enjoy!
Overall, Robert Moses State Park is an amazing place to spend time with family or friends as there are plenty of facilities for everyone to enjoy in this park! There are also some historical sites within the park that tell about how Robert Moses helped create the park, including the old Bath House that was built.
